Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture, in Guizhou Province, is the most desired destination for many tourists when they come to Guizhou. In 1992, this prefecture and Tibet were both listed as the best destinations in Asia for a return back to nature trip.Later, it was selected as one of the 18 ecological and cultural protection circles in the world by the World Foundation for the Protection of the Native Culture. Qiandongnan is undoubtedly the best choice as a travel destination in Guizhou.
黔东南常被概括为“苗侗村旅”。雄伟的雷公山脉位于苗族和侗族村寨的中部。苗族居住在大山的北部，形成了苗寨群落；而在山的南部，侗族沿河建房，形成侗寨。贯穿黔东南的清水河和舞阳河自古就是贵州的交通要道。商兵顺水而上，在镇远、龙里等镇筑起砖墙，使这一带的苗寨始终与汉代文化和古江南风情交织在一起。这些元素形成了“人类最后的栖息地”——黔东南。
Qiandongnan is often summed up as "Miao and Dong villages". The majestic Leigong Mountain Range is located in the middle of the Miao and Dong villages. Miao people live in the north of the mountains, and have formed clusters of Miao villages; while in the south of the mountain, Dong people have built their houses along the river and formed Dong villages. The Qingshui River and the Wuyang River running through Qiandongnan have served as the traffic arteries of Guizhou since ancient times. Merchants and soldiers travelled up the water and built a brick wall in the towns of Zhenyuan and Longli, so that the Miao villages in this region have always been intertwined with the culture of the Han Dynasty and a hint of ancient Jiangnan. These elements have formed Qiandongnan, “the last habitat of the human kind”.
